Virgo's mythology is unusually layered. The Greeks identified the constellation with several goddesses, including Demeter (goddess of grain and harvest) and Astraea (goddess of justice, the last immortal to leave Earth as humans grew corrupt). The agricultural reading is older — the constellation rises during late-summer harvest in the northern hemisphere, and the figure is often shown holding wheat. The justice reading came later, but resonates with the sign's modern temperament. Virgo is about the work of separating what's good from what isn't — at harvest time and in human affairs.
